How does 2B differ from HB?

• 2B is softer than HB, which means it lays down darker marks with less pressure and has a slightly smoother feel on paper. HB is better for writing and fine lines; 2B is better for sketching, shading, and expressive drawing.

Does 2B smear more than HB?

• Slightly — softer graphite can smear if you drag your hand across freshly drawn lines. Using a sheet of scrap paper under your drawing hand helps prevent this.

Can these be used for writing?

• 2B can be used for writing but the marks are darker than standard and the tip wears more quickly than HB. HB (FPLM600) is the better choice for everyday writing. ---
